Timberland Regional Library service in the Amanda Park area began in 1977 working out of a crowded bookmobile parked in a covered area next to the Lake Quinault School. Local librarians MilLee Jolibois and Karen Creviston provided a variety of adult and children services and programs. Then on November 2, 1991, a new Amanda Park Timberland Library building opened its doors offering a uniquely beautiful setting for library services to the community. Money for the construction of the 2,200 square foot building came from timber revenues.

Award winning architect Clint Pherson designed the library drawing inspiration from both traditional western library design and from the “Plank House,” a Northwest Coastal Indian dwelling. The building is raised above the ground reflecting the traditional beliefs of the Coastal Indians that the Earth is a sacred, maternal presence. The building nearly 200 feet long sits within additions of open framing at the beginning and end in reference to salmon fishing, sealing and whaling traditions of the Quinault people. A Community Meeting Room is found at the front of the building looking out a wall of windows framing a green expanse of lawn, trees and shrubs. A spectacular reading room complete with freestanding wood stove is found at the back of the building facing a pair of wall sized windows overlooking a natural walkway and league baseball.

Computer terminals connect library users to the Timberland Regional Library collection of 1.5 million items including all formats of information services. Currently there are three public Internet access computers available. One hour Internet sessions can be booked and drop in sessions are usually available.

The Amanda Park Timberland Library offers library services to residents of Neilton, Quinault, Amanda Park , Taholah, Humptulips and all holders of Timberland Regional Library cards. Local residents Kathy Clayton, Karen Creviston and Kathleen Praxel staff the library offering reference, adult and children reader’s services, and programming. A special collection of local history and information on the Quinault Rain Forest is located in the reading area of the library.
